Marketing Communications Manager

Position Type:  Exempt, Full time

Purpose:  The Marketing Communications Manager is a critical part of the Marketing team supporting the initiatives of the firm.  The emphasis is on writing, communication and development of content for all media in which Tompkins uses to reach potential consulting clients.

Organizational Relationships:  The Marketing Communications Manager reports to Partner: Markekting and Benchmarking

Essential Job Functions:  

Marketing Strategy and Operations

  • Participates on the marketing strategy, branding, and image-building teams and completes activities based on these group’s goals.
  • Participates and contributes to strategy and brand development

Tompkins Supply Chain Consortium

  • Overseeing marketing strategy and execution
  • Editing and formatting all reports

White Papers (in collaboration with Leader of Marketing Communications)

  • Editing and formatting papers
  • Implementing marketing plan

Media & PR (in collaboration with Leader)

  • Serving as main media contact
  • Coordinating press release schedule
  • Writing, editing, and distributing all press releases
  • Scheduling media interviews and tracking all media mentions
  • Researching and pitching editorial calendar opportunities

Events & Speeches

  • Creating, reviewing and editing presentations
  • Overseeing marketing and publicity for the SCLF (invitations, e-blasts, website, press)
  • Coordinating planning of the SCLF (vendor logistics, collateral materials, signage, editing/finalizing breakout presentations)

Focus Industry Teams

  • Marketing lead for the assigned vertical team (s)

Miscellaneous Writing

  • Writing posts for Tompkins International blog
  • Drafting copy for websiteWriting content for monthly newsletters (SCE, EE, GR)
  • Coordinating (and sometimes writing) articles for three quarterly columns in industry publications

Case Studies

  • Editing and formatting all case studies
  • Tracking all in-progress and completed case studies

Book Marketing

  • Overseeing book marketing efforts
  • Coordinating co-marketing efforts with third-party book vendors

Other

  • Serving on teams such as rebranding and website redesign
  • Assisting marketing director with new employee hiring process
  • Providing special marketing and PR support for CEO and firm’s leaders
  • Supporting Tompkins’ SET Team via special marketing projects
  • Conducting marketing-specific research for leadership

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Journalism or other related field of study
  • Three to five years experience in Marketing Communication role required
  • Strong computer skills with working knowledge of MS tools, Adobe Creative Suite, and other related tools
  • Strong writing and oral communications background
  • Exposure to varied writing medium from blogs to formal articles and white papers to report writing
  • Understanding of broader Marketing requirements including websites, social media and video
